Is a 1000mg Edible a Lot? How Many Doses Are in a Pack

Quick Answer

As a single dose, 1000mg is far more than almost anyone needs. But on an edible label, 1000mg is nearly always the whole pack: at 10mg a dose that is 100 doses, and at the usual 2.5 to 5mg starting dose, 200 or more. Find the mg per piece, start small and wait about 2 hours before taking more.

Basics

Is 1000mg of edibles a lot?

Eaten in one go, yes. As a pack total, it is ordinary. The big number on the front is everything in the pack added together, and it is meant to be split across pieces, squares or millilitres.

The number that tells you how strong one piece is sits next to it: mg per piece. Our BC THC gummies guide walks through reading a bag, so this guide sticks to what the totals mean in doses.

For scale, the usual starting dose is 2.5 to 5mg, and 10mg is already a full dose for most people who are new to edibles.

Pack Maths

How many doses are in a 500mg, 1000mg or 1500mg pack?

Divide the pack total by the dose you take. Here is how the common pack sizes work out:

Pack total Doses at 5mg At 10mg At 30mg
500mg1005016
750mg1507525
1000mg20010033
1500mg30015050

The 750mg and 1500mg rows are our own pack sizes. A Handcrafted jar holds 25 squares at 30mg each, and a Dripped bag like Assorted Gummies holds 50 pieces at 30mg.

A 1000mg edible is more often a syrup or a large bar than a bag of gummies. Our Nano CannaLean is 1000mg in a 100mL bottle, which is 10mg in every millilitre; the THC syrup guide covers measuring it.

The same table shows how long a pack lasts. At 10mg on a Saturday night, a 1500mg bag covers 150 Saturdays, close to three years of weekends.

What about 50mg and 100mg pieces?

Some packs put 50 or 100mg into a single piece. A 100mg gummy is ten 10mg doses in one bite, which is hard to cut evenly and easy to overdo. Smaller pieces split more predictably: a third of one of our 30mg gummies lands close to 10mg.

Dose Chart

Edible dosage chart by milligrams

These ranges are the common convention, not rules, and what people report at each level varies a lot with tolerance:

Dose Usually for What people commonly report
1 to 2.5mgA very first tryMild, sometimes barely noticeable
2.5 to 5mgThe usual starting doseA light, relaxed buzz
10mgOccasional usersA clear, full high; strong for newcomers
15 to 30mgRegular usersStrong and long; one of our pieces is 30mg
50 to 100mgHigh tolerance, daily usersHeavy body and head effects for many hours
Over 100mgVery high tolerance onlyVery heavy; anxiety, a racing heart and nausea become more likely

Does body weight change your dose?

Less than most people expect. Tolerance, what you have eaten, and your own metabolism move the needle far more, which is why dose charts by body weight do not hold up. Someone who smokes daily may barely notice 10mg, while a first-timer can find 5mg plenty.

Finding your number with a high tolerance

Start from a dose you already know and step up 5 to 10mg at a time, one session apart, never within the same evening. Note what you took and how it felt, so each step up is based on a real result.

Tolerance also falls after time off. After a break of a week or more, go back a step or two on the chart rather than straight to your old number.

Splitting

How to split a 30mg edible

Every gummy we make is 30mg, a full serving for a seasoned edible user and a lot for anyone else. Cutting it is how one bag serves newcomers and regulars alike:

  • A small corner: roughly 2.5 to 5mg, the usual first try.
  • A quarter: about 7.5mg.
  • A third: about 10mg.
  • A half: 15mg, for people who already know edibles.

A sharp knife on a cutting board works best. Gummy worms cut cleanly into thirds or quarters, and the flat sides of the Handcrafted squares make even cuts easy. Cut a few doses at once, store them in a labelled container, and keep them well away from children and pets.

Timing

Do higher doses last longer?

Yes, usually. A bigger dose may be felt a little sooner, but the main difference is how long it stays: a normal dose runs 6 to 8 hours, and large ones can stretch past that and into a slow morning.

The waiting rule is the same at every size. Effects can take a couple of hours to build, so give any dose about 2 hours before taking more. Our guide to how long edibles take to kick in explains why, and what to do if you took too much.

1000mg Edible FAQ

Can you eat a whole 500mg or 1000mg edible?

Not as one dose, unless your tolerance is extremely high, and even then most people would find it far too much. These totals are made to be split into many doses. If you have eaten more than you meant to, stay somewhere comfortable, drink water and let it pass.

What is a 1000mg edible equivalent to?

There is no clean conversion to smoking. A 0.7 g joint of 28% flower holds about 196mg of THC on paper, but much of it burns off or is exhaled, while eaten THC passes through the liver and tends to feel stronger. Judge edibles in edible milligrams only.

Is a 1000mg syrup stronger than 1000mg of gummies?

No, 1000mg is 1000mg. The difference is how you portion it: gummies come in fixed 30mg pieces, while syrup is measured, 10mg per millilitre on our CannaLean, so a quarter to half a millilitre gives the usual 2.5 to 5mg start.

Why are edibles sold in such big packs?

Mostly for value and convenience. A big pack spreads the price over more milligrams and lasts a regular user for months, and the fixed dose per piece is what keeps it manageable. A 1500mg bag is simply fifty 30mg doses, or many more once you cut them.

Do edibles lose strength over time?

Slowly. THC breaks down with heat, light and air, so keep packs sealed somewhere cool and dark, and they hold their dose for months. Heat also softens gummies and can stick pieces together.

How do you work out an edible dose?

Divide the dose you want by the mg in one piece, and that is the share of the piece to eat. For 5mg from a 30mg gummy, 5 divided by 30 is one sixth, a small corner. For 10mg it is a third.
